Stories

In March, I watched two stage programs of the 37th Hong Kong Arts Festival 2009. One is produced by a local performance unit "ZUNI ICOSAHEDRON" and the other show is created by an oversea unit, "Vesturport and Lyric Hammersmith"; the former called "Danny Yung Experimental Theatre, Book of Ghosts", the latter named "Kafka's Metamorphosis". Both of them also theatrics, and they also presented very exciting visual impacts and attractive scenes to audience.

The first one I would like to introduce is, "Kafka's Metamorphosis", it was adapted by the fiction of the Austrian novelist - Franz Kafka, who is one of the most influential writer in western literature. The short story, "The Metamorphosis" is written in 1915. His other notable works including "The Trial", "The Castle", all of the stories also touched the relationships of society and individual.

I was very impressed by the story, it may because as a contemporary citizen, feel "lost" in the city is very common. And this is a play that gives contemplation to one of the most terrible and alienated relationship of people. Especially to arouse "us" to think the existence value of life. What is the real value of human life ? By looking through the story of a man, to rise the audience to think and read their life seriously.

Another splendid program is called "Book of Ghosts". This program provided many exciting and interactive experiences to audience. For me, I really like the exotic visual representation of "Ghosts" and sound arrangements. But the most important message of this show were bring out the "difficulties", "shock" and "worries" of the stage performers and creators.
